How did you become aware of Anon It Moves?
Erica and I have been friends since we were five years old, and grew up doing theater together. I have been hearing about her idea to start her own theater company for the past year, and I am excited that it has come together. The company attracted me because of the different approach it is taking to theater, and Shakespeare. I have seen and acted in many Shakespeare productions, and I feel like Anon It Moves is striving to do something new and interesting in terms of story and structure.
What attracted you to this project?
I was searching for a project to film this summer, and this seems like a great opportunity. The fact that Anon It Moves is having their first season this year makes it an interesting time to do this documentary. I think it will be inspiring to share with others what young people are doing in theater and art.
Why do you feel documentary filmmaking is an important medium?
I study and practice many art forms, including writing, music, photography and film. I am drawn to documentary filmmaking because it is a way in which my artistic inclinations can be used to explore important subjects and share these with my community. Whereas while my other artistic outlets, such as music, hopefully have some positive influence or create some enjoyment for people, documentary is a more direct way to reach people and engage with the world.
Who are your literary touchstones?
My favorite book is Alice in Wonderland. You may notice this if you take a look at my back.
What filmmaker’s inspire you?
Some of my favorite directors/writers are Wes Anderson, Terrence Malick, David Lynch, and Charlie Kaufman. My favorite film of the past year was Beasts of the Southern Wild. I am always watching new documentaries, but one of my all-time favorites is Exit Through the Gift Shop.
